Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living is a learning and wellness centre committed to maximizing the quality of life for seniors in the community and reflecting Jewish values.

Through member involvement, health promotion and community collaboration, our programs and services strive to achieve:

Independence

  • Self-worth
  • Physical and emotional well-being
  • Intellectual and creative stimulation
  • Jewish values

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living has approximately 1,200 members, although an estimated 3,000 seniors regularly use our La'Briyutss Centre, kosher hot lunches and counselling. The average age of our members is 77, but the centre is open to anyone over 55 years of age. 99 percent of the people who frequent the centre are Jewish; many of them are immigrants from Russia and Israel. 65 percent of the seniors who frequent the BBCCL are single, divorced or widowed women and a large number subsist on low incomes. The majority of our users live along the stretch of Bathurst Street that extends from Wilson Avenue in the south, to Centre Street in the north.
