Toronto District Health Council
The Toronto District Health Council was the local voice in health planning for the city of Toronto - an agency that advises the Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on the local health system. Its mandate was to determine health needs and priorities and to plan for services that address these needs. It was governed by a volunteer council, and supported by the work of hundreds of volunteers on committees, task forces and panels.
Effective March 31, 2005, the District Health Council program in Ontario has been closed. Many of its functions are being assumed by the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINS)
The District Health Councils' reports and other relevant materials are now available at www.dhcarchives.com, an archival web site aimed at preserving this knowledge and providing continued access to health services research locally.
