Synopsis of Project:
Project 2-5a-b: An analysis of employment and practice patterns for allied health professionals and nurses: implications for curriculum design.
In the case of RTs and MLTs, sub-sector will be defined in two ways: location (hospital/community), and subspecialty. The survey will ascertain how many Michener graduated RTs and MLTs work in a sub-specialty of their profession, and how many work in a rotating position (i.e., where they rotate between subspecialties). Is there movement from hospitals to community practice settings for these professionals? What competencies would be required, and how well does this fit with the current training?

Current Project Status:
Three rounds of surveys were mailed out for both the Respiratory Therapy Medical Laboratory Science practice pattern studies. After a hiatus over the summer, a fourth survey round was mailed out in November 2007 to reach a response rate that provides accurate results with a 95% confidence interval with a 5% margin of error. Follow up phone calls will be conducted, if necessary, to reach our target response rate. Subsequent return of surveys, data compiling and analysis are expected to meet the target deadline.
