Molly Verrier
Molly Verrier trained as a physical and occupational therapist at the University of Toronto. After practicing clinically in neurorehabilitation, she did her graduate training in clinical neurophysiology and Health Science at McMaster University. She has conducted research in the basic mechanisms underlying disordered motor and postural control and in patients with spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease and stroke. Motor cortical reorganization and sensorimotor recovery coupled with rehabilitation interventions and service delivery approaches following are fundamental components of her current neurorehabilitation research program. She has cross appointments in the Institute of Medical Science and Department of Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine at University of Toronto. She is funded by the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation to implement the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry in the Ontario.
Molly chaired the Department of Physical Therapy and the Graduate Department of Rehabilitation Science at U of T from 1994-2004 where she implemented a Second Entry Level Evidenced Based Physical Therapy Curriculum, a Master’s in Physical Therapy and an MSc and PhD in Rehabilitation Science. She is a member of a new CIHR Team that is investigating “Shifting between Hospitals and Community” where she is the lead on the Physiotherapy section of the Theme on Health Human Resources. As an academic and a leader in the profession, she is passionate about the advancement of Physical Therapy Practice linked with the optimization of health status for patients and clients.
